BRIDGTON, Maine – Gerald F. Chapman died March 2, 2010 at 5:41 a.m. at CMMC, Lewiston, Maine after a brief illness. He was born October 15, 1924 in Caribou, Maine to Dow and Fannie (Wright) Chapman. He was one of 13 brothers and sisters. He is predeceased by brothers, Donald, Grayden, and Maynard. Predeceased by sisters, Captolla Mushroll, Willa McLaughlin, Phyllis Morrell, and Patricia Beichner; surviving brothers, Richard Chapman of North Caribou and Murry Chapman of St. Albon, Maine; surviving sisters, Mona Belanger of Caribou, Mavis Byram of Old Town, and Athora Donaldson of W. Hartford, Conn.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris (Byram) Chapman along with two children, Brenda (Chapman) Lozoway of Fryeburg and Gaylen Chapman of Sweden, Maine; five grandchildren, Becky Gamblin of Caribou, Jason Lozoway of Princeton, Indiana, Nathan Lozoway of Princeton, Indiana, Courtney Chapman of Fryeburg and Celena Chapman of Westbrook; one great-grandchild, Jessica Lozoway Thompkins of Caribou.
He served in the army during WWII, participating in campaigns in Italy and N. Africa. He tended bar at the Vaughn House in Caribou. An adventurous entrepreneur, he supported his family by establishing a mobile lunch wagon business in Caribou, the first of it’s kind in that city. He enjoyed meeting people and making friends. For over 50 years, he was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Most recently, he attended the Bridgton Congregation. He was instrumental in helping many people gain a better understanding of the Bible up until the day he passed away.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Bridgton, Maine Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Rt. 302. Conducted by Gerald’s son, Galen Chapman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall fund of the Bridgton Congregation.
