To the editor:
I am writing this for all of our veterans. Every year I go shopping for Christmas presents for our veterans at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Caribou. It really makes me angry that some of the biggest department store chains will not even consider any discounts for our veterans. Yet they can give millions of dollars away each year to different things. They don’t seem to find our veterans that important. I don’t need to mention store names as they already know. Thank you so much for K-Mart. That is the only store I will go to for veterans gifts. I just call and mention the word veterans to them and they go out of their way to help me. All the managers are wonderful but especially Mary. I call and tell her when I will be there and she is right there waiting for me. I have seen her spend most of the day helping me. Every year she thanks me for shopping there.
It is I that needs to thank her and the K-Mart store. They truly understand what our veterans have done for us.
In my opinion, these other stores may be very big stores all over the country but when they do nothing for our veterans, to me it makes them very small in size. Helping our veterans goes a long ways. The big storeowners and managers should remember that our veterans don’t owe us a thing. We owe them everything, including our lives.
