Caribou Firefighters battled a December 31, early morning blaze at 356 Thibodeau Road. The home, owned by Roger and Shirley Simon, was a total loss.
According to Caribou Fire Chief Roy Woods, the two-story structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Twenty firefighters and six units were at the location until approximately 9:30 a.m. “Our department received mutual aid and assistance with water tankers from Limestone, Washburn and Presque Isle,” said Chief Woods, “the water tankers were brought to the scene because there are no hydrants available in that area.”
The Caribou fire chief stated the owners of the house, Roger and Shirley Simon, were not home at the time of the blaze. The Simon’s dog however was rescued from the flames but sustained no injuries.
“When a house is fully engulfed when we show up,” said Chief Woods, “you might save the shell, but there’s not going to be anything of value left and in this case, there’s nothing to be salvaged — it’s a total loss, but there were no injuries.”
Chief Woods also stated that the cause of the fire was not determined and although not suspicious, will be investigated through the state fire marshal’s office. The home was insured.
