Troops of the 286th are coming home

    A Homecoming Ceremony for the 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Maine Army National Guard returning home from Afghanistan to Bangor will take place today when troops arrive in Bangor.     According to Capt. Shanon W. Cotta, public affairs officer for the Maine National Guard, members from the 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Maine Army National Guard are scheduled to arrive today, Jan. 6, between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF), Building 260, 92 Hayes Street in Bangor.
    The 286th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, composed of 81 soldiers from the Maine Army National Guard, deployed to Afghanistan for one year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The unit coordinated logistics in Southern Afghanistan to support combat operations against Al-Qaeda and Taliban forces.
    Since many of these guardsmen are residents of Caribou, and surrounding cities and towns, communities are encouraged to greet these soldiers via welcome signs, etc. that will be visible as they return to their hometowns after leaving Bangor. An unidentified source stated that some may arrive in The  County on Thursday, Jan. 7.
