To the editor:
Is democracy in America really working as a “government of the people, for the people and by the people?” Corporations such as banks, insurance companies and Wall Street dictate how life for the working class of people have to live. Our elected officials who are in office have become so corrupt, greedy, dishonest and unethical no one seems to be trustworthy any more. The people who have been elected and sent to Washington to represent the people have wasted the country’s wealth trying to police the world and have put us on the verge of bankruptcy. History shows us that other great nations have tried to police and change the world but failed.
I served in the military from 1950 – 71 and I saw the corruption and waste carried on during these years. We lost in Korea, we lost in Vietnam and now we are losing in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our federal government is spending billions of dollars a year trying to solve the problems of other countries that have existed since the beginning of time yet cannot solve the problems which exist here in our own country.
Our local government leaders have gotten themselves into financial situations they cannot resolve. Every year at election time, the politicians keep telling the people change is what we need. Then when elected, the changes never take place or the changes made don’t work. They have all kinds of excuses as why they didn’t work. It’s always someone else who prevented the change from working.
A democracy will only work when all the people of the land willingly obey the laws of the times. When laws have to be enforced by the military and federal government agencies then there is no democracy.
Our forefathers wrote, “when in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with one another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal stations to which the laws of nature and nature’s of God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinion of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”
Last, they stated, “we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.” Change is needed in America today and one of those changes is the return of being a nation of people who believe in the existence of God as the creator of the universe and that the Bible is the true word of God which tells people how to live to bring peace and prosperity to their lives and country.
Without God, America is on a pathway to destruction.
