The harvest recess is rapidly coming to a close, which means the boys soccer schedule is starting to get much busier beginning this week and into next. The Presque Isle boys added to their win total by beating Hermon and John Bapst last week. The Caribou Vikings stopped Bucksport and Old Town in close matches to move to 5-2-3 overall.

Summaries of the two Caribou matches played last week are as follows:
Caribou 3, Old Town 2 – At Caribou Saturday, the Vikings relied on the clutch play of Nate Rossignol to pull off the victory.
Rossignol scored with just 1 minute and 18 seconds left on the clock to give Caribou its fifth win of the season. Chad Caverhill picked up the assist on the tie-breaking goal.
Rossignol was also credited for assists on Caribou’s other two goals, which were scored by Ben Blackstone in the first half and Cameron Anderson in the second.
“Nate has stepped up his game with some quality efforts lately,” said Caribou coach Mark Shea. “He is one of the stronger players in our conference, and is beginning to reach his potential.
Rossignol now has six goals and four assists on the season.
Garrett Jordan saved seven of nine shots in goal for Caribou. Old Town’s goal scorers were David Wilcox and Matt Richard.
Caribou 2, Bucksport 1 – At Bucksport last Wednesday, Caribou had another “test of intestinal fortitude,” according to Shea, and prevailed thanks to a goal by Jerry Ferszt with seven minutes left that helped seal the comeback win.
After the Bucks grabbed the early advantage, Caverhill provided the tying goal in the first half. Ferszt then came through with his clutch goal.
“[Jerry] is a versatile player that can play any position on the field,” Shea said, “and he is a big reason we’ve been able to continue to get positive game results.”
Caribou outshot Bucksport, 18-11, with Jordan saving eight shots in goal for the Vikes.
Caribou takes on Hermon at home Saturday at 3 p.m. before a rematch against Presque Isle Tuesday at 7 p.m. in PI. The Vikings and Wildcats played to a scoreless draw in Caribou held Sept. 15.
