The Caribou Vikings played to a pair of ties last week, the first against rival Presque Isle last Tuesday and the second at home to John Bapst. In between those games, the Vikes picked up a big win over Madawaska in overtime, with Nate Rossignol scoring the game-winner.

Caribou’s Cameron Anderson and a John Bapst player collide while going for a head ball in Saturday’s contest played at Caribou. The Vikes and Crusaders played through regulation and two overtime periods before settling for a 2-2 tie.
The win avenged an early-season loss at Madawaska, in which the Owls’ game-winning goal was scored with three seconds to go.
Caribou hosts a very talented Ellsworth team Saturday at 3 p.m. and then makes the trip to Bucksport for a 4 p.m. match Tuesday.
Most of the other local teams are in the midst of a three-week respite, with Fort Fairfield, Limestone-MSSM and Washburn all set to resume their schedules in October.
The following boys games were played through Sept. 21.
Caribou 2, John Bapst 2 – At Caribou Saturday, the Vikings needed a goal from freshman Dean Walker midway through the second half to salvage the tie against the Crusaders.
Roland Thibodeau of Caribou and Jason McBernie of Bapst exchanged goals early in the first half before Rick Jones put the Crusaders on top 2-1 early in the second half. John Bapst then went into defensive mode, but Walker was able to find the back of the net 12 minutes later to knot the score.
Caribou outshot the visitors, 15-6, with Jordan ending up with three saves and John Bapst’s Mike Keim saving nine.
“I was extremely pleased with the effort our boys put out, but the reality is that the two overtime games we played earlier in the week took their toll,” said Caribou coach Mark Shea. “We weren’t quite as quick as we needed to be, not quite as sharp as we needed to be, to beat a good team like Bapst.”
Central Aroostook 5, Limestone-MSSM 0 – At Mars Hill Thursday, the Panthers stayed undefeated against Class D opponents with the shutout win.
Dan Brewer, Garrett Stiles, Brandon Anthony, Spencer Stetson and Logan Thomas all scored goals for the Panthers, who moved to 9-2 with the triumph. Ross Grass recorded his first shutout of the season by saving all three shots that came his way.
Zach Moreau and Aaron St. Pierre combined for 13 saves on 44 shots in goal for the Eagles.
Caribou 4, Madawaska 3 (OT) – At Caribou Thursday, the visiting Owls scored twice in the final four minutes of regulation to force overtime, but the Vikes’ Nate Rossignol scored with 2:41 left in overtime to give his team the victory.
“This was probably our strongest showing of the season, and I’ve got to tip my hat to Madawaska – they just never give up,” Shea said. “Fortunately, neither do we. This was an extremely gratifying win.”
Chad Caverhill scored twice and Rossignol had the other goal for Caribou. Jon Ouellette, Ethan McDuffie and Cameron Anderson all had assists. Garrett Jordan saved five of eight shots in goal for the Vikings.
Nate Beaulieu had two goals and Jonathan Lee had the other for Madawaska.
Caribou 0, Presque Isle 0 – At Caribou last Tuesday, Aroostook County’s two Class B teams battled through 80 minutes of regulation and 10 minutes of overtime, with neither able to score a goal.
Kingsbury of PI and Jordan of Caribou each made four saves on 12 shots in recording the goalie shutouts.
“The defense for both teams was strong,” said Shea. “[Presque Isle’s] Nate Ackerson was terrific in neutralizing our leading scorer, Cameron Anderson. Our senior midfielder, Ethan McDuffie, was our key performer – providing defensive support behind the ball and filling the role of playmaker on attack.”
Presque Isle coach Scott Young said his team did not take advantage of some very good scoring chances in the first 20 minutes of the match.
“If we took care of business then, it probably would have been a very different result,” Young said. “However, Caribou did get stronger as the game went along and in the end they held their own and had a few chances to possibly win the game themselves.”
Limestone-MSSM 3, Van Buren 2 – At Van Buren last Tuesday, Michael Allen’s second goal of the game, which came with 13 minutes to play in the second half, broke a tie and lifted the Eagles to their third victory of the season.
Zach Cote scored the Eagles’ other goal, with Nate Berube collecting an assist.
Moreau saved 13 of 19 shots in goal for Limestone-MSSM.
Derrick Rossignol and Connor Lapierre scored Van Buren’s goals.
