A Republican speaks out

To the editor:
Many times I have noticed that Republicans do not seem to do a very good job at speaking out. Maybe it is because they are deemed “hostile”, even “un-American”. I, for one, can sit by no more. I do not have to vote with Democrats to be popular in Maine. I can vote my conscience as it should be.     As in regard to Judy Paradis’ letter last week, I have seen a few non-civility actions myself. But I will take her observations in order.
The “deja vu” — was that like when Michael Moore and the sadly unfunny “W” movie came out and some people came out disrespecting President Bush? He kept us safe since 9/11 and we owe him that as well as our military, who do not get enough credit. God how I miss the Sunday crew picketing President Bush on the Presque Isle bridge. That was purely over Iraq, right? Or was that all? Nine months into his Presidency and Mr. Obama has not got us out. I see no picketers. Afgahnistan is now this President’s Iraq. I see no one.
Next, you talk about President Johnson and Medicare. Great program but broke due to another inefficiently Government-run program. Hey, how about that nice Social Security Program. Guess I won’t receive that when I retire  — thanks “Big Brother”. Strike Two.
I see you did not refer to President Reagan “As” President. Can you say “Let me walk on the P.I. bridge”? And as Governor and President, President Reagan gets the same health care as your Democratic Congressmen. Free. He probably held out his hand after he was shot, right?
But, I agree it is tough in Aroostook County. It always has been. Free health care will not bring a hospital to your door. Expenses can be lowered a number of ways. One by stopping people going to the ER for a toothache.
Also I do not believe enough young working people are paying into the system. Then the toothache comes.
And  please, fellow Americans, let us remember. What you may think of as “free” comes off hard working taxpayers’ backs. Backs nearly broken by heavy taxation. Alas, Clunker Healthcare will be no better.
