Maine DOT crews, as of Monday Aug. 17, have closed a section of Route 205 in Caribou, in order to replace a failing concrete box culvert. The culvert carries Route 205 over Berring Brook, 1.93 miles north of the Caribou/Presque Isle town line. According to MDOT officials, crews will be replacing the culvert, raising the roadway over a span of 800 feet and installing guardrails on both sides of the road.
Motorist are being directed to a posted detour that utilizes the Campground Road, Green Ridge Road and the Hardison Road. If the construction goes as planned, the road will reopen by Tuesday, Sept. 15.
