    The month of July is full of dates to remember, things to do and places to go, so don’t let the, anything but perfect  up until now, summer weather turn you into a non-social butterfly — get out and sesquicelebrate. • Today, Wednesday, July 8,  7 p.m. at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church for anyone interested in participating in the Caribou‘s 150th Historical Play as an actor, a walk on, member of a crowd or as a backstage worker. Learn more about the  historical play written by Phil Turner, receive a script and read for a part or sign up or just check things out.
• Thursday, July 9, Thomaston Place Auction Galleries Antique Appraisal Fair begins at 12 p.m. sponsored by the Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry at the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center. For only $7 an item, (or $30 for 5 items) you can find out what your treasures are really worth. Appraisal experts will be on hand to give fair market value estimates. • Thursday, July 9, Kiwanis Strawberry Shortcake sale — 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Members of the Caribou Kiwanis Club will be setting up for business at the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center to sell some the best tasting strawberry shortcakes you’ve ever tasted. Have your antiques appraised, then step into strawberry shortcake avenue and pick up some of these wonderful creations for the whole family. Pre-orders from Caribou businesses can be made by contacting Carol McElwee at 498-8605 or the Caribou Chamber of Commerce office at 498-6156.
• Friday, July 10, Class of 1979  gathering, 6:30 p.m.
• Saturday, July 11, Class of 1979 reunion at Spruce Haven 5:30 p.m.
• Saturday, July 11, Dedication of Celebrate Life, 11 p.m. in front of the Caribou Recreation and Wellness Center. Witness as members of the CHS Class of 1979 dedicate a sculpture entitled. “Celebrate Life,” created by former Caribou resident Jac Ouellette, to their hometown, showing appreciation to the life  the community of Caribou has given them and to those no longer with us.
• Wednesday, July 15, Lion’s bean Hole Bean supper, 5 p.m. at Collins Pond, sponsored by the Caribou Lions Club. Proceeds to benefit Lions’ community projects.
• Sunday, July 19, Summer Musicale: Opus VI  2 p.m. at the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church. Enjoy a concert of classical music presented by local instrumentalists and vocalists. Tea and refreshments will be available after the concert. Donations accepted to benefit the church
• Saturday, July 25, Pancake Breakfast, 7 a.m. at the Caribou Historical Society Museum on the Presque Isle Road in Caribou. Have a great pancake breakfast, hosted by historical society members, then walk the grounds, enjoy the gardens, the walking trails and peruse the historical displays. For more information contact Dennis Harris at 455-8279.
• A on-going event is the Walking Tour of Caribou. Participants are reminded that when picking up the Ipod (at the Caribou Public Library) used during the tour, ear buds are available for purchase ($1) or you may bring your own.
• Don’t forget to order your copy or copies of “Caribou, Maine: The First 150 Years.” Sales of this keepsake volume have deleted supplies but more copies will be available soon. Place your orders now. Give them as gifts but be sure to hold on to one for yourself. The pages upon pages within this book tell the story of Caribou’s heritage and also features favorite local recipes spanning 150 years.
