Tigers 18, Maine Bag 3
The Tigers pitchers struck out 13 while allowing only two hits against Maine Bag on June 1. Zach Connelly had three strikeouts, Matt Manter had five, Carson Doody had three and Dylan Theriault had one. Maine Bag’s pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts with Justin Reiff, Rickey Sheldon and Nathan Wall contributing from the mound.
Connelly, Conroy, Manter and Doody each singled while Doody and Manter also had RBIs. Theriault, Manter and Connelly also doubled and Manter tripled twice. For Maine Bag, Sheldon and Wall both singled.
Zach Crough stole a Tiger hit with a nice catch in center field and Reiff got an out on second, catching a quick throw from first baseman Kris Michaud. Michaud had two outs on first assisted by pitcher Wall and third baseman Sheldon.
Liza Durrette put out two on first and was assisted by Manter and Adrianna Bither, who got the lead runner on third after catching a throw from catcher Conroy. Conroy made a throw down to second for an out and got one to Manter to catch a runner at the plate. Connelly made a great catch at short to rob Maine Bag of a hit.
Tigers 3, Eagles 2
It is always a great game when the two Woodland teams meet, and June 6 was no exception. For the Eagles, Jared Fox struck out 15 of 20 batters, giving up only one hit in five innings and Hunter Milliard struck out two.
Manter struck out the first eight Eagles and Connelly struck out three for the Tigers.
Because of the excellent pitching, there were few hits for either team. Milliard and Moir each had singles for the Eagles. Connelly and Durrette also singled for the Tigers and Manter doubled.
Conroy made three outs at home for the Tigers with assists from Bither on third and Manter on second.
The score was tied at zero all the way through the fourth inning. The Eagles were able to generate a run when J. Doody was walked in the top of the fifth. They scored another in the top of the sixth off a walk to S. Doody and, in the bottom of the sixth, Conroy was walked when Manter hit a double to put runners at second and third. They both made it home to tie the game and C. Doody scored the run to end it all.
Sleepers 7, Savings Bank of Maine 1
Justin Ouellette pitched for over five innings, allowing three hits, four walks, one run and striking out 13 in the June 6 Sleepers’ game against Savings Bank of Maine.
Mason Huck pitched for his first time, striking out the only batter he faced. Huck also put out three batters at first with Connor Thibeault playing well at catching and providing strong play with one pop out and few scoring opportunities for Savings Bank.
Emma Cyr was walked three times, scoring once and Michael Hunter had one hit, one RBI and scored one run after reaching on a fielder’s choice. Huck had two hits, two RBIs and scored one run with a stolen base.
Thibeault had a hit, walked, stole second and home scoring for the first of his two runs. Riley McDuffie had a bunt single and was hit by a pitch, scoring twice.
For Savings Bank, Caleb Willett pitched for three innings, allowing four runs, three hits, walking seven and striking out six. Jacob Burby pitched for almost two innings, allowing three runs, one hit, walking three and striking out three.
Tyler Raymond pitched for the last out, giving up a hit and striking out one.
Brayden Burby hit a double with an RBI and J. Burby hit a triple and single with a stolen base. Edwin Walker scored the sole run for Savings Bank after being walked.
S.W. Collins 19, Knights of Columbus 0
Caribou Little League scheduled a full slate of games in conjunction with its annual Tag Day event on Saturday, June 6 and the first game on the schedule was a meeting between S.W. Collins and the Knights of Columbus.
The game was heralded as one with dominant pitching and was no disappointment. The first inning finished with just a score of 1-0 as both pitchers pounded the strike zone.
Fourth year player Taylor Thibodeau of the Knights was on the mound first and, after giving up a lead off single, struck out the next three batters in order. Another fourth year player, Dayne Savage, was on the hill for Collins and went the distance, pitching a complete game and giving up just one hit, no walks and collecting 13 strikeouts.
Savage also helped himself at the plate, going 4-5 with four runs and three RBIs. Third year player Aaron Moore of Collins collected a hit of his own and drove in two runs.
Donovan Savage had five runs and two RBIs while Zach Wright went 3-5 with two runs and two RBIs for Collins. Gabe Massey, Andrew Geer and Taylor Miller each went 1-3 with two runs scored to add to the Collins’ total.
Second baseman Brad Doody of the Knights had a nice line drive to the left-center field and advanced to third base off a sacrifice bunt from fellow teammate Devin Martin. Doody finished 1-2. Pitching in relief for the Knights were Jillian Flynn and first year player Kyle McCullough.
Knights of Columbus 19, Eagles 10
Knights of Columbus defeated the Woodland Eagles on June 8 with Brian Corbin taking the win. Knights of Columbus jumped out to a five run lead at the top of the first with singles by Flynn, Thibodeau and Connor Plourde starting the game.
Brian Corbin and Devin Martin combined for an 11 strikeout, eight hit and six walk pitching day and Eagles’ pitchers S. Doody, Moir, Milliard and Erin McBreairty combined for eight strikeouts, 10 hits and 18 walks.
Shop-n-Save 10, VFW 6
Shop-n-Save started off the scoring in this great back and forth game on June 4. In the first inning, Shop-n-Save scored one run on an in-the-park home run by Collins. Shop-n-Save added another run in the second when Ezzy singled and eventually scored after three stolen bases. VFW got things going in the third inning, scoring three runs. With back-to-back walks to Matt Nadeau and Tweed putting two runners on, Berkoski drilled a triple to the right field fence that scored two runs. Berkoski would score on a fielder’s choice by Perriault. VFW added another run in the fourth inning to take a 4-2. Scoring in the inning for VFW was Megan Theriault.
She was driven in by a double by Nolan Powers. Shop-n-Save tied the game at four in the top of the fifth as Ezzy led off the inning with his second single of the game and would again score after three stolen bases.
Kerrigan Manter singled for her first Little League hit of her young career. She would score after stealing second on a single by Collins.
VFW quickly retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs. Back-to-back walks to Evan Desmond and Brown were followed by a single from Zach Whitten to load the bases. Desmond scored on a bases loaded walk to Tweed while Brown scored on a passed ball. Shop-n-Save tied it in the top of the sixth after a lead off triple by Conley.
Conley would score on a single by Gerakaius and Ezzy also scored for the third time in the game after a walk and several stolen bases. Shop-n-Save plated four runs in the seventh inning to take the win. Scoring in the seventh were Collins, Manter, Conley and Loieniecki. Gerakaius had an RBI to score one of the four runs.
Both Kameron Manter and Berkoski pitched very well for the opposing team. Manter lasted into the fourth inning, while Berksoki lasted through five innings. The defensive play of the game belonged to Beaver for Shop-n-Save.
Following a lead-off double to Berksoki in the bottom of the sixth, Berkoski stole third to put himself in scoring position. The next VWF batter, Perriault, drilled a line drive to shallow right field. Right fielder Beaver caught the ball on a dead run for the out. Thinking the ball was through, Berksoki failed to tag up and was forced back to third.
Two strikeouts by relief pitcher Losieniecki would end the inning. After taking the lead in the top of the seventh, Shop-n-Save relief pitcher Losieniecki walked one batter and struck out three to preserve the win.
VFW 12, Police 1
Berksoski pitched 16 strikeouts in just over five innings for the VFW win. Pitching for the Police was Reece McDougal with seven strikeouts, Austin Griffith with seven strikeouts while Austin Caverhill did a great job behind the plate. Griffith singles and doubled for the Police and Jacob Perreault was 3-4 with a double and triple for VFW.
Other VFW highlights included Berkoski with three singles, Tweed with two singles and Dave Smith, Zach Whitten and Austin Brown who had one single each.
Shop-n-Save 17, Eagles 5
The Eagles started off the scoring on June 1 in the first inning when Corey Moir scored on a bases loaded walk to Shawn Doody. Jared Fox had a single in the inning to load the bases and the Eagles added another run in the second when Danielle Greenier scored on a single by Moir.
Shop-n-Save scored two runs in the bottom of the first and added seven more runs in the second inning. Scoring for Shop-n-Save was Adam Collins on a triple by Kameron Manter. Manter then scored on a passed ball. In the second inning, Alex Losienieck, Ben Ezzy, Axios Gerakaius, Ashton Beaver, Colby Holdsworht, Collins and Michael Marquis all scored for Shop-n-Save. Gerakaius, Marquis and Manter all had singles in the inning. In the bottom of the third, Shop-n-Save added four more runs by Holdsworth, Collins and Losieniecki.
Collins and Conley each had singles while Losieniecki had a double. Shop-n-Save added four more runs by Holdsworht, Collins, Marquis and Gerakaius. Marquis had a double, while the other run scorers each had singles. The Eagles added two runs by Erin McBreiarty and Fox in the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Hunter Milliard scored the Eagles’ final run.
The defensive play of the game came when Collins fielded a deflected ball at shortstop and threw to first from his knees for the out.
Tigers 11, Maine Bag 10
On May 26, the Tigers played Maine Bag and Tigers’ pitcher Matt Manter struck out seven batters. Adrianna Bither struck out four, Liza Durette struck out one and Garrison Doody struck out two.
Maine Bag’s Josh Fortin struck out five. Fortin had a single and a double, Kris Michaud, Spencer St. Peter and Devin Doody each had a single.
Ricky Sheldon made seven outs playing first. The Tigers’ Zach Connelly had a single and a double and Manter had a double, an in-the-park home run and an out-of-the-park home run.
Bither and Collin Patterson each singled and Garrison Doody had three singles. Carson Doody and Conroy each had an RBI. Conroy also had an in-the-park home run and a walk off in-the-park home run.
