HOULTON, Maine — One person died and two others were injured early Tuesday morning in a car accident on outer North Street.
Houlton Police Chief Dan Pelletier said Alan Bulley, a 45-year-old Houlton man, was fatally injured around 6:30 a.m. when his 1992 Oldsmobile crossed the centerline just north of the Border Patrol station on Route 1 and collided with an oncoming vehicle driven by 75-year-old William Burgen of Presque Isle.
Burgen and his passenger, wife Mary Burgen, 58, were also injured and were transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor.
Both Bulley’s vehicle and the Burgens 2002 Dodge Ram were totaled.
As of presstime, police were still working to determine how the accident happened.
“That’s still under investigation,” said Pelletier. “There will be toxicology tests run and we’ll try to find out what happened.”
Crews cleared the scene just before 10:30 a.m. Pelletier credits combined efforts of the Houlton Police, Maine State Police and the Houlton Fire Department. Those “combined efforts” aided not only in the investigation, but also allowing traffic to keep moving, added Pelletier.
Investigation into the accident is being handled by Officers Daniel Norton and Charlie Wampler with help from State Police Trooper Robert Flynn.
