The Caribou girls suffered back-to-back losses in Lincoln over the weekend in their doubleheader against Mattanawcook. In the first game, the Lady Lynx won 18-0 as pitcher Tayla Trask kept the Lady Vikings from hitting, striking out all 15 batters. Caribou faired better in the second game with five hits in a 6-4 loss. The Lady Vikings scored their first run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth. Their final run came in the sixth inning and Serena Grier had an RBI double while Danielle Violette connected for an RBI single.
The Viking baseball team split their doubleheader against the Lynx Saturday, losing the first game 13-3 with only six hits. Leading Caribou were Ted Walker, Phil St. Peter and Eric Brown, all with doubles. The Vikings turned things around dramatically in the second game, winning 16-3 as Pat Thibodeau only allowed Mattanawcook five hits. Caribou started off the second game with seven runs in the first inning and Eric Brown doubled, singled twice and have five RBIs to lead his team. Chad McCarthy and Matt Kinney had two singles each and contributed one RBI a piece.
Tied at four-all heading into the fourth inning, the Caribou Vikings broke away from the Houlton Shires at the top of the fifth on a homer by Ethan McDuffie on May 26.
The Vikings went on to score another run that inning and four more before the end of the game in their 10-5 victory over the Shires. Brown, who took the win, had two singles and two RBIs while Thibodeau and Seth Sager contributed RBI doubles.
The Lady Vikings were equally successful in their 18-4 win over the Lady Shires last Tuesday. Caribou started off with two runs in the first, maintaining a two-run lead throughout the game. Kristen Espling homered and tripled, sending home six runs while teammate Katie Ouellette contributed a home run, single and three RBIs. Tripling again for the Vikings was Ashley Doucette, who also singled and had one RBI.
Eagles fall to Owls
The Owls destroyed the Eagles’ baseball team 16-3 Monday afternoon in Madawaska. Danny Cote singled twice for LCS/MSSM and Aaron St. Pierre contributed an RBI double but Madawaska scored early and maintained an 8-2 lead into the third, before adding eight more runs by the fourth inning.
With back-to-back May 26 home games against Fort Kent, the Limestone baseball team took consecutive losses. In the first game, an 18-6 defeat, the Eagles scored two runs in the third off of singles from Mike Brown, and scored four runs in the fourth when Aaron St. Pierre slugged a three-run triple.
But the Warriors had already taken a 11-6 lead. Game two ended 6-5 as Limestone tried to make a late-game comeback, taking a 3-2 lead in the second but falling behind for good in the third as Fort Kent took a 4-3 headway. Brandon Hopkins singled twice and had two RBIs for the Eagles.
In their fourth regular season loss, Limestone’s softball team fell in the last inning to Madawaska, 6-5. The Lady Eagles scored first in the second, but the Lady Owls responded in the third to bring the score into their favor 2-1. LCS/MSSM tied things up in the fifth but Madawaska scored again in the sxith for a 3-2 lead. The Lady Eagles sent home a game-high three runs in the sixth inning to take what looked like a solid 5-3 lead, but the Lady Owls scored twice at the bottom of the inning to tie the game and sent home a last minute run in the eighth inning for the win. Limestone’s Myley Denslow singled with an RBI and Jasmine Cote, who lost on the mound, doubled.
The Lady Eagles had a loss to avenge May 26 after losing the first of two home games to Fort Kent in a Tuesday afternoon doubleheader. Limestone’s softball team suffered its third season loss in a 10-9 battle with Fort Kent. The Lady Eagles maintained a close lead until the third, when the Lady Warriors tied things up at four runs. Fort Kent advanced in the fourth, scoring four runs and silencing LCS/MSSM’s bats for an inning.
The Lady Eagles scored once in the fifth and four times in the sixth to tie the game 9-all. But, scoring once more in their last at-bat, the Lady Warriors clinched the game in the final inning. Cote suffered the loss but Victoria St. Pierre contributed an RBI single and Amanda Allen singled three times.
Stepping up to the plate for game two, the Lady Eagles were all seriousness and destroyed the Lady Warriors 18-11. The game, tied at five at the top of the third, took a significant turn as Limestone batted in four runs to advance to a 9-6 lead by the fourth inning. The Lady Eagles scored two more times in the fourth and Allen only allowed Fort Kent one run at the bottom of the fourth.
With an 11-7 lead heading into the fifth, LCS distanced themselves even further from their opponents, scoring three runs at the top of the fifth and again in the sixth. The Lady Warriors would go on to score four more runs, but by that point, LCS had already reached their team total of 18 runs off of 20 hits.
St. Pierre doubled three times with three RBIs and Kellie Peers and Denslow singled twice, while Eagle Stacy Bernier led LCS with three singles, a double and five RBIs.
