Caribou Pet Rescue director sets record straight

To the editor:
I have been doing some soul searching lately and I’ve debated — should I reply to any of the articles, letters to the editor, or the e-mails that have been directed at Caribou Pet Rescue of late? I have drafted a response and tweaked it many times, but in no way could I clear up all the false information that has been given to you, the public, simply because there have been too many half-truths.     I kept asking myself if I were to submit such an article and expose the truth to some of the intentional misleading information, would I appear to be as vindictive as she? Would I be stooping to the same level of the one who intentionally misrepresented so many facts regarding Caribou Pet Rescue since her resignation? Her actions and words caused many people to withhold their donations and I believe she knew what the impact would be. So, the job of closing has been a bit more difficult with a reduction of incoming funds, but ultimately it’s the animals that have been affected.
I am deeply disappointed by those actions and words. I have seen someone whom I considered a role model fall before my eyes. A part of me wanted to set the record straight and do damage as she has tried so hard to damage this shelter, the board of directors and me, personally. Then I remembered something that had inspired me long ago. “One evening a man told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “The battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.” The grandson thought for a minute and then asked, “Grandfather, which wolf wins?” To which the man replied, “The one that you feed.”
I have deleted the draft I have been fervently working on. I have abandoned my desire to expose the truth for I am reminded which ‘wolf’ I prefer to feed.
Remember, CPR still has some wonderful cats and kittens that need a forever home. If you are interested in adopting, please leave a message at my home 496-3707, or at the shelter 498-3800. I’ll return your call as soon as possible. We are hoping to get everyone adopted or placed at other shelters by December 27. This will give the board time to clean up the building and return the keys to our landlord by the end of the month.
I cannot express how blessed I am. My path has crossed with so many exceptional people and so many wonderful animals in the past 33 months that I have been involved with Caribou Pet Rescue. Many have shown me that despite what we see and hear all around us, there is good in this world. Please support CAHS; running an animal shelter is not a light burden for anyone and they will need your support just as Caribou Pet Rescue always has. Congratulations to Lucianne Belanger the winner of our home heating oil raffle and to Shirley Dumas, winner of the beautiful homemade afghan.
Merry Christmas and may God bless you all.
