During a recent Caribou City Council meeting the following agenda items were presented and considered.
The council members considered acting upon the issuance of renewal Junkyard Permits to Anderson’s Salvage, Beaulieu’s Auto Salvage, Gilbert’s Salvage and Mark’s Towing. Council members approved renewals to Anderson’s Salvage and Beaulieu’s Auto Salvage; Mark’s Towing permit renewal was granted on the condition that screening be added to the gate at this location within 30 days. The council agreed to direct City Manager Steve Buck and Steve Wentworth to inform Gilbert’s Salvage of the necessary issues that must be addressed in order to be in compliance with city ordinances and therefore have a license renewal granted.
Another agenda item involved the consideration of actions necessary for the continuation of the Caribou Pet Rescue. Norma Milton, former president, board member and founder of the facility asked to address the council regarding the closure of CPR. Milton encouraged council members to ask the current board of directors to turn the troubled facility back over to her. Paula DeMerchant, current president of the CPR board was also present but declined to address the council. It was suggested and approved by council members to add the Caribou Pet Rescue issue to a workshop session, scheduled for Dec. 15.
Other business considered by the Caribou City Council included: a cursory review of correspondence from the United States Department of the Interior; consideration of amendments to the Wage and Classification Policy pursuant of requests under the Review Policy; considered setting a Public Hearing date of Dec. 8, for the adoption of the revised Caribou Administrative Code Personnel Policy.
Workshop topics at the Dec. 15 meeting are to include the completion of Tax Acquired Property Policy, Personnel Policy, and Wage and Classification Requests. The first hour and 15 minutes of the workshop is to be designated to the priority agenda item regarding Caribou Pet Rescue.
