Barnum graduates from Forest Academy

 Image   William Barnum, formerly of Woodland, graduated from the 2008 Forest Ranger Academy at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vasselboro, earlier this month. Barnum had been employed by the Maine Forest Service as a Forest Ranger for over three years prior to attending the Ranger Academy. The Ranger Academy is held every 3 – 4 years, depending on how many Forest Rangers have been hired.     While attending the10-week Ranger Academy, Barnum completed a wide range of courses including wild-land firefighting, timber trespass investigation, basic law enforcement and emergency vehicle operations.
    Ranger Barnum achieved the highest average test score and was awarded class valedictorian. He is currently assigned to the East Branch District and will be working out of the Island Falls office.
    Prior to working as a Forest Ranger, Ranger Barnum received his B.S. in environmental studies and an A.S. in forestry from the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
