Welcome to Maine

To the editor:
When you cross the border from New Hampshire, it’s a long ride to Caribou — about seven hours. Another hour and you’re in Fort Kent — give or take a few pit stops for food and to see the sights. If you’re in a hurry it takes a little less time. But who wants to rush things anyway.     From south to north that’s how my family came here to live years ago. I was amazed with the tranquility that was here. The lakes were clean and the fish were plenty. I’ll never forget my first fish fry. Lake trout — togue as it’s called. Now that’s a fish. If I had to freeze a moment in time and take a picture, it would be over Cross Lake at sunset. The way nature has a way of calming the soul has always kept me coming back to Aroostook County.
So until next summer I’ll put the fishing poles away and wrap the old camp in plastic. Get some wood for the stove; winter’s on its way. But get ready, another long summer of fishing is on its way, too.
