MWSC athletes win Lobster Roll event
NORTH HAVEN — Maine Winter Sports Center athletes proved their fitness at the second annual Lobster Roll 15-kilometer skate rollerski race Oct. 25. MWSC’s Sarah Dominick and Nick Kline cruised to victory over the scenic course that took racers on a circuit of one Maine’s most scenic islands.     College winners at the event, which served as Maine’s collegiate rollerski championships, were Ingrid Knowles of Bates College and repeat winner Tom Cook of Bowdoin College.
The Lobster Roll, organized by MWSC, gives athletes at Maine colleges a chance to see a part of the state that most would ordinarily bypass. Racers travel to the island of North Haven on an hour-long ferry ride. While the competition is excellent, the chance to visit a remote part of Maine and to learn a bit about the issues of the day are equally important. This year, Maine State Representative Hannah Pingree addressed the racers after the post-race feed.
