October Students of the Month

    CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Middle School staff are pleased to announce their selections for Student of the Month for October.

  Hailey White was selected by her teachers, Mrs. Ouellette and Mrs. LeVasseur from the Brianiacs’ Team, who described White as a very responsible, organized, helpful and friendly student who always has a smile on her face.
“Hailey has transitioned very well from fourth to fifth grade and this is evident in her independence and success as a fifth-grader,” said the teachers.
Activities White participates in at the Caribou Middle School include chorus and the Builder’s Club.

 Michael Hunter was named as October’s Student of the Month by teachers from the Sur-five-ors team, Mr. Barnes, Mrs. Hebert and Mrs. Barnes.

    The fifth grader’s teacher stated, “Michael sets a great example for his peers with his work ethic and attention to detail. He is a gifted artist and takes great pride in doing his best work. He is extremely kind to his classmates and is willing to offer a helping hand without being asked.”
Hunter is a member of the fifth and sixth-grade band and is very active in soccer and basketball.

 Austin Griffeth, a sixth-grader was selected by his teachers Mrs. Bouchard, Mrs. Dionne and Mr. Pelletier of the Six-Ceeders team.

    These teachers said, “Austin maintains high honors and is a conscientious and hard working student. He is considerate to his classmates and is always ready to help them out in any situation. He is an all-around student and athlete who always has a positive attitude.”
Griffeth is a member of the Police Little League team, plays recreations soccer and takes part in the AYBL basketball team. One of his favorite activities is cross country skiing.

 Brian Corbin’s teachers, from the WOWs team, Mrs. Duncan and Mrs. Holmes stated, “If you were voting for a president on our WOW team, the unanimous candidate would be Brian Corbin. Traits he possesses well-known to other students include, honesty, helpfulness, intelligence and kindness. His heart always goes out to anyone in need, whether it be a classmate or a friend.”

    “Brian has shown that he is very versatile when it comes to playing positions on his Little League team. Where the coach needs a strong player, Brian comes to the rescue. His teammates know he will give his all and they commend him for being so strong,” said the CMS teachers.
Coming in second in the Box Car Derby and the medals he won are moments that he will treasure for all times. Also winning the Geography Bee in the fifth-grade for his class earned him another medal. He is a strong but very gracious student who works quietly and places academics first. He is so admired by his teachers who are very pleased with his character and they believe he is a true example of a well-rounded student for many of his classmates.

Matthew Frost, was chosen as the seventh-grade STARS team Student of the Month for October by teachers Mr. Thompson and Mrs. Rhinebolt.

    Both teachers agree that, “Frost is an exemplary student and is very deserving of this special award. He is very dedicated to working hard and doing well in his academics. He is very outgoing and liked by his peers. Matt is respectful to his teachers and tries hard to please by setting an example of a model student for others to see.”
“Matt is always eager to talk about his life experiences. One in particular that comes to mind is his enjoyment he shares about his bird-hunting experiences that he and his dad shared this year. He has also enjoyed the many camping trips and often mentions the enjoyment he gets from participating in family activities.” his teachers added.
“When you see Matt around CMS you will see a happy person, usually wearing a nice smile. It is not uncommon to see him mixing well with others or lending a helping hand to those who need it. These are only a few of the reasons why Matt has been chosen as our October Student of the Month,” they said.
When Frost was asked what he enjoys at CMS besides the sports, he mentioned math, science labs, reading and the nice teachers. Math is his favorite subject. Some of the seventh-grader’s happiest memories include hitting 10 home runs this year, going to Bar Harbor and also a trip to Idaho. He has attended a Red Sox game and also shot his first deer.

 Cody Herbert  was name October’s Student of the Month by his teachers Ms.  Richardson, Mrs. Curtis and Mr. Perreault from the grade-seven SWAT team.

    The teachers stated,” Cody is an outstanding young man. Very helpful in all his classes and is an excellent student in all academic areas. He has an inner strength based on his high level of maturity, consideration and respect of others and a great sense of what is right and wrong. Cody handles all situations with confidence and calmness.”
The seventh-grader was a very good player for the CMS Soccer team this year, being very versatile by playing both the field as well the goalie position. He is an all a round athlete and will play many sports at the Caribou Middle School.

 Tim Shaw was named one of the  grade eight October Students of the Month by his teachers, Mrs. Dow, Mrs. Sleeper, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Fantasia and Mrs. Boma.

    The Caribou Middle School staff members said, “Tim Shaw has been performing well in all of his classes and has shown growth as a school citizen. His increased efforts have been shown not just on his report card but also through his active participation in classroom discussions.”
Shaw has a love for the outdoors and hopes to become a game warden.

Mikey Selander was selected as a grade-eight Student of the Month for October by his teachers, Mrs. Dow, Mrs. Sleeper, Mr. Barnes, Mr. Fantasia and Mrs. Boma.

    When describing Selander as their selected student of the Month the teachers commented, “Mikey is a pleasure to have in class and routinely goes about and beyond with many aspect of his education. He not only strives for the best with his grades, shown through his Highest Honors status, he is also extremely thoughtful and considerate other students.”
“He’s consistently looking for ways to help his fellow students in the classroom and also in the many extracurricular activities he is involved with,” his teachers added. “Mikey is a member of the eighth- grade leadership team and was an obvious candidate to be a participant in the newly formed eighth-grade book club.
Selander’s leadership skills also transfer to his participation in athletics. He has shown his outstanding athletic skills on the soccer field, the wrestling mat and on the baseball field. In soccer he was the leader on defense and was a big reason why his team finished first in the league. He has been a three time county champion in wrestling and was the everyday catcher for the baseball team as a seventh-grader.
