Metrostars 7, Fire 1
In the first half, Evan Desmond, Austin Brown, Dawson Hebert and Garrison Doody had multiple attempts on goal. Desmond and Doody each found the net once in the first half with Doody assisting Desmond. In the second half, Daniel Randolph put the ball in the goal once and Dawson Hebert and Doody hit the goal twice each. Seth Beidelman, Randolph, Hebert and Doody kept the pressure on the Fire with multiple shots on goal.
Kristen Sarmiento, Hunter Jackson, Megan Dube and Kyra Thibeault kept fire out of the goal with strong plays and clearing the ball from the Metrostar end. Austin Brown played well in goal with several saves during the game. The Metrostars played well with many well executed pass plays and worked together. It was a well played game with good hustle from both teams.
The Fire’s Kaitlynn Nadeau found the foot of Dylan LaMothe to score the team’s lone goal. Gabrielle Marquis showed great hustle throughout the game. Heather LaMothe, Jacob Milton, and Blair Tweed did a great job controlling the middle of the field while Bailey Griffeth had many offensive attacks to goal.
Noah Heidorn’s two goals in the second quarter of play, with help from Paige O’bar and Zoe Gerakaris, proved to be all the scoring the Galaxy needed in the 2-1 victory over the Rapids. Cole Jackson, Kyle Beaulier, Camden Huck, Kirsten Haney, Brandon Morgan and Ashley Matlock played lights-out defense holding the Rapids scoreless for three quarters of play.
The Rapids only goal was scored by Nick Sleeper, with strong defense from Hope Shea and an excellent job in goal by Emerson Duplissie-Cyr. Noah Frost was very strong on defense.
A very good Galaxy team came within approximately 10 minutes of getting upset by a very hungry team Fire. The first quarter ended with a scoreless tie. Galaxy’s Cole Jackson tuned in a solid performance in goal turning back several opportunities from the Fire. Kirsten Haney, Brandon Morgan and Paige O’bar all played key defense in the first half with Zoe Gerakaris putting pressure on Fire’s defense. The surprise came toward the end of the second quarter when Brandon Tweed from the Fire up one to the back of the net and carried a 1-0 lead into the third quarter.
Camden Huck tried his best in the third quarter missing on three very close shots on goal, but going into the fourth quarter the Galaxy was still down 1-0. After some back and forth play at the beginning of the fourth quarter the Galaxy finally found the back of the net and they did it often. Noah Heidorn and Kyle Soetarte-Beaulier each netted two goals in the fourth quarter with help from Ashley Matlock for a 4-1 win. Galaxy finished the 2008 season with a very respectable 6-2 record.
The Fire team played great for the first three quarters of the game. Heather LaMothe assisted Tweed’s goal to put the Fire up 1-0. Dylan Bonville saved a hard-hit penalty kick but the Galaxy kept pounding the ball on goal and was able to sneak a couple by.
Metrostars played excellent defense in the first half in keeping the Revolution from scoring. Evan Desmond scored the only goal for Metrostars and had a save in goal. Dawson Hebert, Garrison Doody and Austin Brown provided strong leadership on the field and took several shots on goal during the game. Hunter Jackson aided in the defense with strong play and a save while in goal. The Metrostars made good passes in the game, keeping the Revolution on their toes.
The Revolution kept its pace and played well against the Metrostars in the second half by picking up three goals. Josiah Krul found the back of the net twice, while Maddison Doucette made a relentless run at the goal to finally score. Connor Plourde made great forward passes to help his front line, while Christine Skidgel was flawless defensively.
(Grades 5 and 6)
Chelsea 1, Arsenal 0
Paul Hanson scored the only goal for the Chelsea team in the second half and that was all the Chelsea team needed to defeat Arsenal. Outstanding defense was played by Justin Akerson and Riley McDuffie to shut down all scoring opportunities by the Arsenal team. Arsenal also played great team defense to hold Chelsea to a single goal.
West Ham battled back from a 2-0 deficit behind three goals scored by Michael Hunter to take a 3-2 win over Manchester United. This was an exciting back-and-forth game, with both teams getting some great chances. Erin Patton and Nick Frost notched assists for West Ham. Jillian Flynn and Greg Martin made some super saves. Chelsea Haney, Eileen Patton and Morgan Outing anchored the defenses. The entire West Ham team worked together to pull out the win.
Chelsea came out strong in this contest. Colby Holdsworth scored 2 goals with Kyle Tibbitts, Paul Hanson and Michael Marquis each scoring a goal apiece as well. Riley McDuffie played strong defensively as did Tibbitts.
Liverpool’s Matt Milton scored in the first period on an unassisted goal. Emilee Sirois and Gabe Massey help to keep the score even by applying pressure on Chelsea on the offensive end. Some great defense from Elijah Verhoff and Richard Newland kept the score even thru midway the third period. Richard Newland scored on an assisted goal off a Matt Milton pass.
Liverpool 0
West Ham United shut out Liverpool as Abby Theriault and Michael Hunter each scored in the 2-0 triumph. Eileen Patton landed an assist. Morgan Outing and Erin Patton played great in the midfield for West Ham, while Greg Martin and Nick Frost kept up the offensive pressure. Taylor Miller also played well.
Liverpool had their chances but fell short on several tries to put the ball in the goal. Denied by some great defense were Gabe Massey and Matt Milton. Madison Yakel and Elijah Verhoffs’ Midfield play was tremendous and Brandon Levesque and Sara Boyer made some nice defensive stops. Dylan Lamothe and Richard Newland both shared time at goalie for Liverpool.
