Small and Selander notch game-winners

    The Caribou Lady Vikings claimed victories in a pair of matches decided by a single goal this past week.
    In the most recent contest, sophomore Jenna Selander scored the game-winning goal early in the first overtie period as Caribou avoided the upset and defeated Hermon, 1-0.
    Kristen Espling had the assist on the play. Morgan Swan handled the goalie chores fo the Vikes and turned away five of seven shots for the shutout.
    Last Tuesday, Caribou used an Abby Small goal with 24:35 to play in the second half en route to a 2-1 victory over Fort Kent.
    Selander had tied the game with a goal earlier in the half. Brittany Doak and Swan shared goalie chores, combining for seven saves on 16 shots.

    Caribou had lost to Fort Kent earlier in the season at home.
    The Lady Vikings are now 8-2 and in fifth place in the Eastern Maine Class B standings.
    The Viking boys tied Hermon last Wednesday, 0-0, with Caribou goalie Eric Brown saving nine of 20 shots and Hermon’s Corey Johnson saving eight of 14.
    Caribou is now 6-2-2 and in ninth place in the division.
