Worcester, Massachusetts – Carl J. Berglind, 81, of Whitla Drive, in Worcester, formerly of North Oxford, passed away, Tuesday, September 9, 2008, in Saint Vincent Hospital.
He leaves his loving wife, Evelyn H. (Hilton) Berglind; a son, Bruce Berglind and his wife Kathy of Succasunna, New Jersey; and a daughter, Bonnie Holtzclaw and her husband Karl of Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Albert Berglind of Clemson, South Carolina and Bernard Berglind of Fairfax, Virginia; three grandchildren, Erica, Jonathan, and Carly; as well as nieces and nephews. A brother, Arthur Berglind, pre-deceased him. Carl was born in New Sweden, Maine, the son of John and Esther (Adamson) Berglind.
Mr. Berglind came to Massachusetts as a young man in the mid 1950’s, after working as a potato farmer, mill worker, and bus driver in Maine. Here he began his family and started working for Morgan Construction as an assembler, retiring in 1986. He was a pillar of the church community at Lakeview Congregational Church in Worcester, where he was deeply involved as a Trustee and Deacon of the church. He was a member of the Morgan Retirees, serving as treasurer, and was involved with the Greendale Retired Men’s Club.
Carl’s funeral was held Friday, September 12, from Mercadante Funeral Home and Chapel, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester, with a service at 11 a.m. in Lakeview Congregational Church, 115 Coburn Avenue, Worcester. Calling hours were held Friday morning from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, prior to departing for church.
