To the editor:
Come help us light the candles for “Caribou’s 150th Birthday Party”! 2009 will mark Caribou’s sesquicentennial year. The Caribou Chamber of Commerce and Industry, our city government, and a committee of volunteer citizens is bringing about a yearlong celebration of Caribou’s history and heritage. In the planning stages, we need many of our citizens to help out: to put on an “Irish fling”, an old-time fiddle festival, a community-wide potluck supper (hosted by our Lister Knowlton Post of the VFW), to a dinner dance and much more, we need your help! From “hands on” work on projects, to assisting with marketing, finance, advertising and many other subcommittees, we can use your help. Come attend our organizational meetings; help set up our antique auction appraisal day; and meet John Holub, one of Maine’s premier brush artists, at the Caribou Crafts Fair (and be prepared to purchase one his limited signed prints of early Caribou which we’ll be putting on sale, thanks to his generosity).
Come join us as we plan with the local Rotary, Kiwanis and other civic and church groups such as the Caribou Historical Society and the Nylander Museum. From our planned parade, to a unique open house hosted by the personnel of our National Weather Service Station, to a fireworks display, help us to celebrate our city and its heritage. Our next meeting will take place Wedneday, September 24th, at 3:30, in the Caribou Room of the Caribou Public Library. Please come and get involved. Thank you!
