Mad Lake Triathlon to be held Sunday
The Mad Lake Plod, Pedal and Paddle Triathlon will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at Brent Jepson’s camp on the South Shore Rd. on Madawaska Lake. The race will include a 4-mile run, 13-mile pedal and 4-mile paddle with a pot-luck barbeque following. Individuals or teams of 2-4 people to split up the legs are welcome. There are no entry fees and the event is open to all ages, but there is no adult supervision. Volunteers are also needed to help out at this informal event. Youth hockey registration
Presque Isle Youth Hockey is gearing up for registration for the 2008-09 season. Boys and girls from central and northern Aroostook County are encouraged to participate.
Registration is Sunday, Sept. 14 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Presque Isle Recreation Center on 270 Main Street. Some equipment is available free of charge. For more information, call Erin at 498-3245 or call the Forum in Presque Isle.

Middle school boys soccer wins 3 of 4
The Caribou Middle School boys soccer team eased past Fort Fairfield Friday, 9-0, and won two of three others previous to that in recent play.
Nick Matlock, Michael Boone and Devin Cyr each had a pair of goals against the Tigers, while Adam Collins, Kameron Manter and Dean Walker added single tallies for Caribou. David Pelkey, Nolan McDuffie, Breen Blackstone, Collins, Matlock and Walker all collected assists and Cody Herbert got the shutout in goal.
Last Tuesday, Caribou was a 4-1 winner over Houlton thanks to great passing and strong defense throughout. Collins scored twice and McDuffie and Walker had one each. Mike Selander and Lucien Caverhill had assists, with Selander notching two off corner kicks.
CMS split with the Presque Isle teams, falling to the White team, 3-1, after beating the Blue, 3-2. Walker scored the lone goal in the loss to PI White off a Zac Gorence assist.
Against PI Blue, McDuffie, Matlock and Collins all scored first-half goals while the Caribou defense and goalie David Pelkey did the rest.
Other contributors for the Vikes were Sean Barbosa, Matt Frost, Eric Tilmont, Tyler Strid, Austin Caverhill and Alex Scott.
UMFK road race
The University of Maine at Fort Kent will host a five-kilometer road race on Saturday, Sept. 20 beginning at the UMFK Sports Center. Race-day registration and number pick-up will begin at 9 a.m. with the race beginning at 10 a.m.

Rafting trip set Sunday
Outdoor Adventure Program International at the University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a whitewater rafting trip on Sunday, Sept. 14 to the west branch of the Penobscot River. The trip is available to UMPI students and members of the public.
Cost of a ticket is $60 for students and $85 for non-students. Student ticket sales are currently under way, while non-students may purchase theirs beginning Thursday.

Fat Tire Festival slated in Presque Isle
The TAMC/NHSC Fat Tire Festival will take place Sept. 27-28 at the Nordic Heritage Center in Presque Isle. Events will include an adventure relay, bike rodeo, downhill race and MMBA Point Series cross country mountain bike finale. For more information, visit www.nordicheritagecenter.org.
Pool classes offered
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will offer a guard start, first aid and CPR class Oct. 3 and 4 from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. both days.
Participants must be level IV or above. Call the indoor pool at 764-2564 to register.
General swim hours are Tuesdays from 2-3:45 p.m. and 7-8:45 p.m., Thursdays from 1-2:45 p.m., Friday from 7-8:45 p.m., Saturdays from 1-2:45 and 7-8:45 p.m. and Sundays from 1-2:45 p.m.
Family swim hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 6-7 p.m.
Basketball officiating school
IAABO Board 150 will offer an officiating school for new officials beginning Sept. 29 at Presque Isle High School room 411.

Evaluations slated for basketball program
MBNation/Maine Hoops Basketball Club is accepting players of all abilities for placement in its Session I basketball program.
The program is for boys and girls in grades 4-12. Included is team participation in two leagues, weekly practices, weekly skill sessions, uniforms, sneakers, fitness facility membership and much more.
