Special to the
Aroostook Republican
All week long the words to a song have gone through my mind even though I do not remember most of the words. I found myself singing it as I cared for the 19 foster kittens and cats in aour garage. “My love is deeper than the deepest ocean, wider than the sky…….” And that is exactly where I run out of the words.
Therefore, I make up the rest and keep going. There are lots of soft caresses and kisses dispersed when I get stuck for a word or phase. The mood is not one of work but of relaxation and comfort.
The cats appear to love our special time and any shyness on their part will soon disappear. I guess they think if I can feel comfortable making this kind of noise – then the world must be OK and it is safe to play.
The garage atmosphere is filled love and comfort and we enjoy watching the cats play. Neighbors stop in to spend a little time spoiling the animals. This attention will show up later when the animal is adopted. People report back that they have never seen such loving animals.
This morning after we had cleaned the cages, Ev and I sat in our chairs and just watched the kittens play. They have freedom in the garage except at feeding time, and when I open the food can everyone heads for their own unit.
After feeding, some cats will choose to nap but the some will venture out for more play.
Without a doubt, all the kittens will pass by Uncle Bob as he does his funny checklist twice a day. Bobtail Bob is our neutered male feline caregiver.
First, Uncle Bob will check at each kitten’s ears and then he will do an intense study of each rear end. Soon satisfied that all is well with his babies, Uncle Bob will then loving wash each face. Bob’s love is “deeper than the deepest ocean – wider than the sky.” Wouldn’t we all love to have an Uncle Bob!
