During the 2008 Maine Potato Blossom Festival in Fort Fairfield, U.S. Rep. Mike Michaud (D-Maine) presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol to Yueying Wang Bloomer. The flag was flown over the Capitol at the request of a friend, in honor of her becoming a U.S. citizen. Yueying and her mother, Qiong Huan Gao, were able to take a short break from serving food at the Frontier Heritage Pancake Breakfast to join her husband, Mark Bloomer, and visit with Michaud to receive the flag. Yueying commented that it was a very great honor, and that she was very pleased that her mother, visiting from China at the time, was able to be there, as well. The Congressman stated that he was honored to present the flag, and that it is always a pleasure to meet someone who has chosen to become a U.S. citizen and call Maine their permanent home.
