“I really like my House district but I can’t help but think that as a senator, being one voice out of 35, my votes might be more influential,” said Maine State Senate candidate Troy Jackson.

Troy Jackson, left, candidate for the State Senate seat District 35, spent time meeting and greeting Limestone area residents Saturday evening at the Limestone Firehouse meeting room. Jackson who has served six years as a state representative, is a native of Allagash. Pictured with Jackson are his son, Chase and Wade McLaughlin, candidate for District 3, House of Representatives.
Jackson, a native of Allagash and involved in his family’s logging business in Fort Kent since he was a young boy has been a House representative for the past six years.
“As a senator I can help keep the Democratic majority in power,” said Jackson.
As a young boy growing up in the St. John Valley, Jackson worked in the logging industry. At the age of 18 he was working in the woods and in 1990s, when labor disputes became a real issue with the woods business he began canvassing the state looking for help, traveling the state trying to get assistance and results from then Gov. King in resolving these problems.
“I really wasn’t political then and I don’t consider myself to be anything more at this time. I’m just an average guy, but I’ve got heart and I know what is right and what’s wrong,” he added.
Following this introduction to the political world, Jackson entered college and received a degree in business.
In reply to a question on the much-debated school consolidation plan, Jackson’s position was easily determined when he replied, “I voted to repeal in the last vote, it’s being presented as ‘one size fits all’ and that just doesn’t work.”
The Senate hopeful will be in Grand Isle, at the community center Saturday May 24, from 6-8 p.m.
