The month of October was an extremely busy month for the Mapleton Lions Club. There were three major club activities. On Oct. 25, the club held a successful Hunter’s Breakfast. Many members of the three towns turned out for an excellent breakfast.
A 50-50 draw was won by Rick Boucher, who kept his breakfast money and then turned the winnings back into the club. Rick said that he appreciated all the good things the club does and he was happy to return the winnings to them to help the club in its projects. The club thanks Rick for being so generous.
Later on the same day, the club, in partnership with the Mapleton Parent Organization, held a Youth Day party. Children from across the three communities came dressed in costumes as their favorite characters. There were princesses, pirates, Star Wars storm troopers and characters galore. The club wishes to thank the MPO for their partnership on this project and also to thank the students from Presque Isle High School who helped put fun in this Youth Fun Day project. Prizes were won, pumpkins decorated, and cakes won at the old fashioned cakewalk. The kids will remember this day for a long time.
The club’s last project for the month was a fund-raiser for the club. The club raffled a Mossberg Hunting Rifle Model 4 x 4 with high-powered scope. Tickets were sold throughout September and October. Lion Kevin Nightingale, project chair, had to have a second batch of tickets printed due to the popularity of the raffle. The rifle winner was John Preston of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Thanks to everyone who bought a raffle ticket. These funds will greatly help the club with its scholarship program and the expenses of operating the Mapleton Lions Hall.

Pam Lord celebrated her 60th birthday with friends at the home of Dory and Jeff Smith. The group enjoyed an evening playing Bunko and sharing good food while helping Pam go over another speed bump on the road of life. Many in the group will be following her reaching 60 this year. Congratulations, Pam!!
Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society is looking for volunteers to please give them an hour of your time once a month to help keep the building operating. The fund-raisers they have are just paying their expenses and leave them with little else to do their projects. If you have enjoyed voting, going to town meetings, their suppers, having a reasonable hall to rent right in your own town, and other events, please consider helping to keep their organization going for future years. Dues for a working member are $10 per year, or $15 for non-working member, or $100 for a lifetime membership. Their meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month from February through November.
They are requesting that anyone who has knowledge of a veteran who served in the military between 1903 to the present to write or call Natalie Maynard, 2877 State Road, Castle Hill, Maine 04757 or 764-4878. They need names, dates, and any information you can give them so they can place the names on a sign or in a book in the future. The person must have been a resident of Castle Hill at the time of service.
All meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of each month from February through November.
Mapleton United Baptist Church

Mapleton Baptist is located directly across from the elementary school and is handicapped accessible.
