CARIBOU – The Viking basketball teams held their fortress secure against Central in Monday night basketball at Caribou High School in double-victories.     Central looked to have the upper-hand in the girls’ game with a lead all the way to the end of the third quarter, but CHS propelled past Central for the final 45-39 win.
Kristen Espling led team-scoring with 15 points, and Amanda Cyr popped in 11 for Caribou. Both Espling and Cyr had three three-pointers.
The Viking boys controlled the pace of their game to topple the Red Devils, 73-53. Jarryd Rossignol plowed up 25 points to lead the offensive attack for CHS. Ben Rosser put in 13 and Kyle Corrigan had 12 points for Caribou.
The maroon squad captured the day on Saturday keeping Bucksport to single digits at the half, and finishing off their opponents, 45-21. Espling and Karyn King powered in 14 points each for Caribou. The Viking boys defeated Bucksport, 66-50.
The Caribou girls’ basketball squad had a five-point advantage at the half of their Tuesday night matchup with Fort Kent on Jan. 15th. However, the Warriors claimed their floorboards in the second for a 57-48 final in FKHS favor.
Viking Espling led the maroon girls with 16 points. King shot for 12 points, and Ali Richards contributed another 10 for Caribou.
The Viking boys take on Fort Kent tonight at CHS at 6:30 p.m. Both teams will travel to Hermon on Saturday with 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. tipoff times.
Beavers stop Eagle effort
The Limestone/Maine School of Science and Mathematics girls had the home advantage on Wednesday night as they faced Washburn with their 6-2 season record; but the Eagles couldn’t budge past the Beavers, 50-20.
Washburn defense kept Limestone in single-digits until after the half to prove their status. Kelsee McLaughlin shot for 15 points in the seventh win, and Erica McDougall claimed 13 points. Rebecca Campbell added three three-pointers to the Beaver scoring column.
Limestone’s Caitlin Good had the team-high eight points for the Eagles. After three quarters, last Wednesday the scoreboard looked favorably on the Washburn Beavers as they hosted Hodgdon. Nick McIntosh’s hot hand shooting led the Beaver force to tip the scales in the WDHS favor.
However, Hodgdon’s Chris Williams put in a three-point shot that gave the Hawks the advantage with less than a minute to play. Washburn lost in the waning seconds, 47-46.
McIntosh put in a game-high 22 points, and Connor Fitzpatrick scored 12 points for the Beavers.
The Limestone boys next face Wisdom at home on Monday at 7 p.m.
