    The Stockholm Lumber Co.’s mill was in full operation and a large number of men were employed. Shipments of lumber were reported to be “quite brisk.”

    Mr. Frank Turner and his wife drove to Limestone on Sunday.
    Mr. Martin Nichols, who had a shock about a year ago, has suffered another shock and is down again. There are three or four small children under 10 years old and the oldest girl is but 15. We think they need the sympathy of all in their affliction.
    Benny Swanberg secured a deer while hunting in the vicinity of the Madawaska lakes last week.
    The Lutheran Sewing Circle met at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. A. P. Bjorkman last Wednesday.

    The U.S. potato crop is expected to total 359 million bushels,  up from 356 million which was initially expected a month ago. In Maine, potato production was expected to total 39 million bushels.
    The “Ten Commandments of a Well-Behaved Wife” were published. Included in the list was the following adage: “Thou shalt not talk all the time, for verily thy husband may wish to be heard at rare intervals.”  Also part of the list: “Thou shalt be patient with husband’s shortcomings and occasionally exaggerate his good qualities, if he has any, before his fellowmen.”
    A 4-H Club was organized by New Sweden girls on Nov. 11.
    An Aroostook County court handed down 60 indictments.
    Judge Donald C. O’Regan was guest speaker at the Rotary Club. His talk explained the U.S. presidency as “the biggest job in the world.”

    A Stockholm housewife,  Mrs. Hartley Jepson, suffered burns and her home was destroyed when an explosion ripped through her two-story home. The explosion was caused when a cleaning fluid, being used by Mrs. Jepson, was ignited by the kitchen stove.
    The Association of Aroostook Chambers reviewed a map of the proposed Interstate Highway System during a meeting in Caribou.
    The Sportsmen Inc., served 166 people at its annual hunter’s breakfast at its Axel Siding lodge.
    Kenneth Allen of Bridgton was named as the new manager of the Hotel Caribou.
    Seven B-52 bombers left Loring Air Force Base to join aircraft from the Strategic Air Command for a 10,600-mile goodwill trip from Homestead AFB in Florida to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

    The proposed design of a Caribou High School auditorium had to be revised after recommended changes in the plans increased projected costs.
    Four new members of the City Council and the Board of Education saw budgets and holding the line on taxes as issues for the next year. Phil Bennett and John Belanger, new members of the council, and Roger Thibodeau, a new member on the school board, cited the financial issues as important for 1983. Carolyn Kelley, who was elected to the education panel, said community members need to be more involved since their tax dollars support those functions.
    Aroostook County Commissioners proposed an increase for the 1983 budget from $2 million to $2.1 million.
    The creation of an organization to advance relationships between Loring Air Force Base and the surrounding communities was proposed by Col. O.K. Lewis, wing commander. Membership in the group would include representatives from business, industry, government, education and individuals.
