DOVER FOXCROFT, Maine — A warm, sunny day greeted track athletes from Houlton as they competed in the State Class C championship at Foxcroft Academy Saturday.
The Houlton girls tied for 27th place with four points, while the Shire boys placed 11th with 21 points. The boys’ finish is the highest placement for the Houlton squad to date.
“It was a great day for a state championship,” said Houlton coach Chris Rines. “The weather was much more favorable than a week ago and I think you can see that reflect in our results. We had a lot of kids score and reach the podium for the first time at the state championship which hasn’t been done since Elyjah Crockett in 2014.”
The individual girls results for Houlton athletes, with first-place overall finisher include, were:
100 — 1, Lauren Stoops, Orono, 12.72; and 15, Amelia Hanning, Hou, 13.94.
1600 — 1, Hannah Steelman, Orono, 5:23.92; 7, Rylee Warman, Hou, 5:40.49; and 28, Olivia Winslow, Hou, 6:26.97.

The individual boys results, including first-place finishers, were:

200 — 1, Robinson, 22.65; 8, Fletcher, 23.98; and 10, A. Brown, 24.18.
3200 — 1, Nicholas Harriman, Lisbon, 10:16.26; and 3, I. Brown, 10:24.34.
High jump — 1, Jon Whitcomb, Hall-Dale, 6-feet; and 3, A. Brown, 5-8.
Javelin — 1, Joshua Martin, Penquis, 151-7; and 14, Timothy Glatter, Hou, 107-8.
Discus — 1, Jake Koffman, Orono, 189-9 (new state record); and 18, Bouchard, 101-9.
“Every single kid poured in an entire season to make it today, and not a single one of them held back, it was all left on the track,” Rines said. “The race times out of Isaiah Brown and Rylee Warman broke both of their existing school records and personal bests. Mia Hanning lowered her best and the school record in the 200. Ethan Fletcher’s 200 and 400 also did the same. Austin Brown’s 200 meter was his career best, and Olivia Winslow’s 1600 meter time was her third fastest all time.”
The coach added that Glatter and Bouchard had a tough day in the field events but still managed to place ahead of their pre-meet ranks and represent the school well.
“This season would not have been possible without the support of Houlton High School, our school board, my assistant volunteers, the kids, but most of all the parents who were there with us from the start and helped us along the way with travel, team dinners, and everything else.”
