Garage owner retiring
Elky Woodman is a true Washburn icon, having been born and raised, as well as working and raising his own family, in this small town. His parents were Wallace and Bertha Woodman, and Elky and his wife Dolores live right across the road from the Woodman homestead. Dolores and Elky have been married 61 years and are the parents of four children, Ed Woodman Sr., Sandra Jacobs, Russell and Wally Woodman. They have seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Elky owned and operated Woodman’s Garage on Gould Street in Washburn since 1957. His garage was founded and operated on “Aroostook County ” learning, welding old trucks and generally just working for the love of mechanics.
He is grateful to the many faithful customers over the 50 years and still takes time to visit them and enjoys coffee at the mall almost daily.

THE GEESE at the Washburn Mill Pond recently had to limit their swimming to a very low level of water, since they were nearly surrounded by ‘mud flats.’ This was due to the draining of the pond in order to work on replacing the culverts that were severely damaged during the April flooding. The project is being paid for by FEMA monies and should make the area around the pond safer, as well as more natural-looking in the pond areas.
