John J. Ginty, Jr., a local health care leader who served in a variety of management and administrative roles at The Aroostook Medical Center for more than 30 years, recently retired from his position of senior vice president.
“Jack was a dynamic leader who could relate to patients, employees and physicians equally well,” said Dave Peterson, president/CEO of The Aroostook Medical Center. “He had the ability to motivate others to be the best they could be. He will certainly be missed.”
Ginty was hired in 1975 by A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital and Cary Memorial Hospital as a shared director of materials management. He later joined A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital full-time, and his management responsibilities expanded over the years to include oversight of support services, physician recruitment and several clinical areas. He was also heavily involved in the consolidation of A.R. Gould Memorial Hospital, Aroostook Health Center, and Community General Hospital in the early 1980s. This consolidation resulted in the creation of The Aroostook Medical Center.
Before moving to Aroostook County, Ginty attended Villanova University and Fairleigh Dickinson University. He also worked for 10 years as a purchasing agent in the steel industry and for several years as a materials manager at an 800-bed teaching hospital in New Jersey.
For the past two years, Ginty has spearheaded The Aroostook Medical Center’s Service Excellence Initiative, a program designed to make the organization the best place for patients to receive care, employees to work and providers to practice medicine. The program got off to a successful start under his leadership, and Ginty helped to develop a foundation that will allow the Service Excellence Initiative to grow and prosper in the future.
“Of all of Jack’s accomplishments, his work in getting the Service Excellence Initiative up and running was among the most important,” added Peterson. “He was instrumental in bringing all the stakeholders together and communicating the initiative’s goals to employees and providers. Launching this program was a big job, and Jack’s hard work and leadership has contributed greatly to our success. His work in this area will leave a lasting impact on the organization.”
Ginty, a lover of the outdoors, enjoys sculling, rowing, hiking, biking and running. His wife Judy remains employed as health services manager of Horizons Aroostook Family Practice. Upon her retirement, the couple plans to live in Brunswick so they can be closer to their children and grandchildren.
