CLEARWATER, FL – Shirley (Clement) May of Clearwater, FL passed away on Monday, October 13, 2008, at the age of 92. Born in Arlington, MA on July 2, 1916, and resided in Winthrop, MA for over 60 years.
She was employed by the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company and the Registry Of Motor Vehicles just to name a few.
The devoted wife, for 57 years, of the late Otis G. May (Past Grand Master of the International Order of Odd Fellows), Shirley joined the Margaret Winthrop Rebekah Lodge #153 of the Rebekah Assembly in 1939, becoming the Noble Grand of the Lodge in 1944, and served as such through 1945. In 1946, Shirley became the District Deputy President to the Evergreen Lodge #19, in Stoneham, was elected Warden of the Assembly in 1955, Vice President in 1956, and President in 1957. In 1958, she received the Declaration of Chivalry. Shirley remained active in the assembly until 1975 she and her husband Otis retired to Florida.

Shirley is survived by her two sons, Stephen O. May of North Reading, MA; Otis May and his wife, Mary McCarthy of Mapleton, ME; two grandsons, Stephen C. May of North Reading, MA, Michael. J. May and his wife, Nicole of North Andover, MA; and three great- grandchildren, Serenity, Mahalia and Michael Jr. all of North Andover, MA and her close friend and companion for the past nine years, Mr. Edward Campbell of Clearwater, FL.
