PRESQUE ISLE – The Central Aroostook Kennel Club, www.TheCAKC.com, is pleased to offer a seminar with Dr. Mark Hanks, DVM, from the Kindred Spirits Veterinary Clinic in Orrington. The discussion will be Helping Your Dog Age Gracefully & Using Acupuncture to Help Your Pet. As a veterinarian for 20 years, Hanks has been deluged by products and diets that promise to do wonders for your pet. In his talk he focuses on claims about Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants and the science behind the claims. He will also discuss the single most important indicator of longevity in pets. No brand names will be discussed in this lecture, only concepts.
Acupuncture, a 7,000-year-old discipline, has undergone increased popularity in human and veterinary medicine in the past few years. For those looking to avoid side effects of medications or to understand some of the principles behind this ancient method of balancing the body and providing good pain control, this is the lecture to attend. What is traditional Chinese medicine? What does that yin-yang symbol mean?
In addition to the lecture, there will also be a demonstration of acupuncture on a willing canine participant. The event will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center, Route 1. Registration is from 7:30-8 a.m., with the seminar from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is $40 per person. For more information, contact Kathy at tydavent@yahoo.com, 435-3451.
Please do not bring your pets.
Note: Any proceeds above the cost of hosting this event will be donated to County animal shelters.
