MATTHEW GREGG, left, son of Terry Gregg of Maple Meadow Farm in Mapleton, shows fifth-graders in Melissa Buck’s and Casey Johnson’s fifth-grade classes at Zippel Elementary School how they bale hay and stack it on the wagon using horse-drawn equipment. Also during the outing, Terry Gregg took the classes on a horse-drawn wagon ride and talked about farming practices and equipment from yesteryear.

STUDENTS in Melissa Buck’s and Casey Johnson’s fifth-grade classes at Zippel Elementary School recently visited the Willard C. Doyen and Sons farm in Mapleton during a field trip. Here, Bill Doyen, farm owner, explains to the students how the harvest operation works. During the field trip, they also toured the potato warehouse and packing shed to gain an understanding of modern farming practices.
