Despite the weather, several high school baseball games were played last week. Monday called for some cancellations.
Recaps for last week’s games are as follows:
Houlton 1, Presque Isle 8 — Last Wednesday in Presque Isle, the Wildcats took a 5-1 lead after three innings. Ben Buckley of Presque Isle hit a two-run homer. Buckley, Andrew Patterson and Caleb Nadeau combined on a seven-hitter. Kyle Riders and Cooper Madore each tripled and scored, while Patterson singled. The Wildcats even their record at 3-3.
Jacob Drew led the Shires with a single and an RBI, while Ryan Dee hit two base hits. Ethan Bouchard and Billy Phillips each doubled.
Houlton 12, Madawaska 0 (DH) — No highlights were provided for the double header in Houlton against Madawaska.
Katahdin 10, Hodgdon 9 — Last Wednesday in Stacyville, the Cougars led 5-4 after the third and erupted for five runs in the fourth inning to hold on for a close win over the Hawks.
Cooper Drew, Cody Brownlee and Dakota Reinhardt each collected five hits and drove in four runs for the Cougars.
For Hodgdon, Jimmy Buzzell homered and doubled. The Hawks committed seven errors in the game.
SACS 7, Ashland 5 — On Monday, the Warriors and Hornets braved the rain showers in Dyer Brook. The Warriors pulled out a close game behind senior right-hander Parker Walker, who threw four innings of no-hit ball, striking out eight, while Southern Aroostook held a 3-0 lead.
The Hornets took the lead in the top of the fifth, 5-3, before Southern Aroostook answered with a four-run bottom frame. Josh Perrin doubled and singled, while Cory Rockwell tripled for the Warriors.
The Warriors have won all six of their games this season.
SACS 15, Wisdom 4 — Last Friday, the Warriors played in Wisdom and jumped on the Pioneers early. The Warriors drove in 10 runs in the first inning.
Gage LeFay led the 14-hit attack with a single, double and home run. Perrin doubled and singled twice, while Rockwell had two doubles. Nate Lilley and Walker doubled and singled in the game.
SACS 16, East Grand/GHCA 1 — Sophomore Hunter Lawlor threw three innings in his high school debut last Wednesday in Dyer Brook. He struck out six and recorded a one-hitter against East Grand/GHCA.
Austin White paced the Warriors with a double and three singles for four RBIs. Robert Brown collected three singles, while Walker and Perrin each doubled and singled. LeFay added a triple and single.
For East Grand/GHCA, Thomas Gilman tripled and singled, while Trevor Noyes singled.
East Grand/GHCA 1, Washburn 28 — Last Friday in Washburn, the Beavers rolled to the win. Cameron Bragg went 4-for-4 from the plate, driving in three runs.
Gilman doubled and scored East Grand/GHCA’s only run.
