Carnival Day
The annual Carnival Day will be held at the Healing Hearts Ranch on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Located on the East Ridge Road, this event is a fun time for all, with games, food and a chance to get close to the animals on the ranch.
Founded in 2004 as an outreach program through the non-profit Northern Lighthouse, the ranch serves special needs children and adults from central Aroostook County that respond to the chance to help and interact with the animals on the ranch. Currently there are goats, chickens, miniature horses and sheep on the ranch.
The Carnival Day was started a couple of years ago as a fund-raiser for the ranch. With the help of many volunteers, the day is a fun time for all. One of the highlights of the day is the dunking booth. This year some of the ‘dunking targets’ will include Trooper Brian Harris, Detective John Cote and local assistant coach Erick Martinez. If you want your chance to drop one of these fine men into the drink, be at the ranch on Saturday!

Books donated
The family of Hants White has donated several copies of “Potatoes Without Gravy” to Jennifer Morin, instructor at CAHS, for use in her agriculture class. The book was written a number of years ago by Mr. White in response to a NYC newspaper article that asserted that all Aroostook County farmers were rich and living a lavish lifestyle, while at the same time crying poverty and getting large government support payments. Mr. White wrote the book that told the “real” story of farming in Aroostook County.
Mr. White’s family has also donated a copy of each of Mr. White’s other books to Ms. Morin for use in her curriculum.
