Win big by praising your local firehouse

A national contest is offering an opportunity for participants to not only win prizes for themselves but for their local fire departments as well.

It’s called the “firedog Across America Contest” and is being sponsored by firedog and Circuit City. The brand ‘firedog’ is owned and operated by Circuit City. For those wondering what firedog is, its Web site describes it as, “The ultimate one-stop shop for all your technology needs. From PC repair, home theater installation, wireless and more, only firedog can get your entire digital world to obey.”
Participants in the online contest have the opportunity to win a $10,000 home ‘techover’ from firedog, with the winner’s local firehouse receiving a $20,000 donation. The grand-prize winning firehouse will receive an additional $100,000 donation.
“To kick off firedog Across America, firedog and Circuit City presented $100,000 donations to both the FDNY Foundation, which supports New York City Fire Department initiatives, and the National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundatio for its efforts in helping children of law enforcement and firefighting personnel. Former New York Mayor Rudy Guiliani and New York City Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta were on hand to receive the donations,” stated a firedog news release.
To enter, all participants have to do is share a personal story on how a local firehouse has demonstrated service to the community. If selected as one of the 10 finalists, you’ll receive a $10,000 ‘techover,’ with $20,000 donated to your local fire station.
Once the 10 finalists have been selected, the stories will be posted online on firedog.com, with Americans voting for their favorite firehouse.
Entries are limited to one per person/e-mail address. To enter the contest, go to www.firedog.com and complete the online form, in its entirety. Entries must be completed before 11:59 p.m. EST on March 31. Visit the Web site for more information and complete details on the contest. All fire departments are eligible for the contest.
“This is a great opportunity for folks to share their stories about local fire stations, including ours, especially considering they have a chance to win a prize not just for the firehouse but for themselves as well,” said Grant Spinney, a firefighter with the Presque Isle Fire Department. “An entry not only means possible money for their fire station but a nice prize for themselves.”
