Busy weekend planned at UMPI

    PRESQUE ISLE – This weekend marks the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s annual Homecoming Weekend, which will include a number of athletic competitions.

    On Saturday, Sept. 13, both the men’s and women’s soccer teams will be in action against Maine Maritime Academy; the women will kick off the afternoon and begin play at noon followed by the men’s game at 2 p.m. The Owl’s Cross Country teams will be hosting the annual UMPI Invitational; the women will race at 11 a.m. followed by the men at 11:45 a.m. Finally, the UMPI volleyball team will be hosting its first tournament of the season in Wieden Gymnasium, with both UMFK and Thomas College in attendance. The Lady Owls begin play against Thomas at 11 a.m., and then return to action against rival UMFK at 2 p.m.
    The Owl Athletic Hall of Fame will induct three new members Saturday at the Campus Center.. Heather (Brewer) Richards, Jeffrey Joseph and Dwight Hunter will be enshrined. Social is at 5 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m., with the induction ceremony to follow.
    On Sunday, Sept. 14, all former UMPI alumni are welcome to participate in the Owl’s annual Alumni Game Day. At 11 a.m., everyone is invited to test their speed and skill in an Alumni & All-Comers Cross Country Race, which will take place at UMPI’s Park Family Field. The men’s and women’s soccer teams will be taking on the former soccer greats of our programs. The men’s game will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the women’s game, which will begin at 1 p.m.
