The Presque Isle Wildcats hosted their first meet of the season last Wednesday, with both the girls and boys taking titles.
The ’Cats had a perfect score of 15 in the boys meet, with Jason Johnson winning the event in 19:52, followed by Brandon Hafford (20:07), Alex Carter (20:10), Logan Thibeau (22:03) and Matt Eager (22:18).
Limestone/MSSM took second with 52 points, followed by Greater Houlton Christian Academy with 82 and Fort Kent with 89.
The PI girls outscored Fort Kent, 25-36, for overall honors. The Warriors had the top two runners in Grace Boutot and Kaitlyn Bernard, but the Lady Wildcats used their depth to earn the win. Alecia Palmer was third in 24:12, with Krista Buck fourth in 24:39 and Hallie Bartlett fifth in 25:05. Limestone/MSSM and GHCA also had competitors, but did not field full squads and did not figure in the team scoring.
At Ellsworth Saturday, Johnson was ninth overall in the boys’ race and Palmer ninth in the girls’ race. Johnson’s time was 15:50 on the 2.84-mile course, with Palmer crossing the line in 18:40. The PI boys were sixth out of 10 teams, while the PI girls were fifth overall out of 11.
Alex Carter was 18th and Brandon Hafford 21st for PI. On the girls’ side, Buck ended up 25th and Elizabeth Wright 30th.
The previous weekend at MDI, a relay meet was held. Both PI squads were fourth out of seven teams. The York girls and boys were the team champs. Palmer was just out of the top-10 in the girls meet, placing 11th in 12:34 on the 1.82-mile course. Buck was 18th in 13:10.
Johnson again took the ninth spot in the boys’ race in 10:44.
