Ark Animal Sanctuary

Well, 2014 is officially over. It was a difficult year but it is time to move on and we hope that 2015 will be a year of much happiness for everyone. We also hope that 2015 will bring around much needed change for all of the neglected and abused animals out there. Every day I cringe when I read all of the stories out there and see all of the pictures of poor helpless animals in shelters on what they call death row. I cannot look at those pictures and listen to those stories and not feel compelled to help.

How did the world reach this point? Is it really easier and more cost efficient to euthanize animals every day than to make a commitment to educate the public, set up low cost spay and neuter clinics or to put spay and neuter laws into place? Think about it – we have to pay to have shelters open their doors to take in the stray and, yes, euthanize due to overcrowding and we have to pay to educate the employees on how to euthanize. We have to pay for the meds and the equipment to euthanize and then we have to take a breathing living soul and end its life. This all happens because we as humans do not act responsibly and do the right thing. A life is a life no matter what the cost.
I know that educating the public and setting up low cost clinics and passing laws is no easy task but the point is it can be done and less animals will suffer. We need to stop the madness and I believe together we can make a difference. I know I get on my soapbox and preach and the people that read my column always step up to the plate. They read the column because they are animal lovers. It suddenly occurred to me it is the people who do not read my column or any articles concerning the welfare of animals that we need to reach and to educate.
I encourage everyone out there to make a difference, to help educate others, and to report animal neglect and abuse. Make a difference in the life of an animal. Wouldn’t it be nice if every animal had a home? The decision is yours – why not be a part of the solution and make a difference? Doing the right thing can become contagious and the rewards are priceless.
Please join us on March 15 at The Horn for an evening of great food and great company; a portion of the night’s proceeds will go to The Ark.
Thank you for your continued support and as always thank you for reading our column.
