Girl Scout Troop 241 will be reaching out to the community this Saturday, Sept. 13 in the form of a bottle drive. All funds raised will go toward the medical expenses of two-year-old Devin Whitmore who was seriously injured recently at his Ashland residence. Please do what you can to help Devin’s family in their time of need.
Troop 241 is also planning a bean hole bean supper for Saturday, Sept. 20 to raise money for Devin, as well. More information will be in next week’s column.
A look back at Ashland’s 2008 Summer Fest
This year’s Summer Fest was a musical celebration jam-packed with activities, sights and sounds that kept young and old very entertained. The Summer Fest committee, consisting of Larry Hall, Kathi Beaulieu, Andrea White, Debbie Carney, Sherry Calhoun, Bobbi-Jo Condon, Linda Milligan and Lendell Tarr, deserve a huge pat on the back for their efforts in organizing the fantastic, four-day event. Thank you also to the many local organizations, churches, businesses, etc. that participated in whatever way to make the community celebration a great time for everyone. Ongoing Events
The Ashland Area Senior Citizens group meets every Thursday at noon at the Aroostook River Fish and Game Club. Any senior citizens wishing to participate in the potluck lunches and meetings are always welcome.
The Portage Lake Seniors’ Lunch is held on the last Tuesday of every month at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall. All seniors are invited to attend and can bring a potluck dish to share or give a cash donation. For more information, contact Wilza Robertson at 435-6211 or Grace Nason at 435-6373.
The Red Hat Loonies of Portage Lake meet the second Thursday of every month at Dean’s Motor Lodge. Membership dues are $2. Come and have a great meal and a great time, too! For more information, contact Rachel Stevens at 435-6358.
