McCormack, Joyce D., 86, December 17, 2014. A funeral service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Portland on December 26 at 1 p.m. Interment to be held in the Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton.
Joyce D. McCormack, 86, died December 17, 2014, at South Portland Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born in Houlton on June 2, 1928, the daughter of Phillip and Christine (Lyons) Daigle. She was educated in Houlton schools and graduated from Houlton High School in the Class of 1946. On June 29, 1947, she married Robert McCormack, and they raised their family in Houlton.
She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Houlton, where she served on the vestry and was the church secretary during the 1960s. Later she worked for the Houlton Pioneer Times reporting on community news. She enjoyed cooking, playing bridge, gardening, hand crafts and spending time with her family at their camp on Grand Lake. She was a Cub Scout and Brownie leader and she volunteered at church bazaars, Rotary luncheons and at the Houlton Regional Hospital.
During a seven-year period of living in Hampden, she worked in the dental office of Dr. William Cutler in Brewer. Returning to Houlton in 1975, Joyce eventually took a position with the University of Maine at Presque Isle’s Houlton Center, where she worked until her retirement in 1996.
In 2008, she moved to the Portland area to be closer to her children, and she lived at State Street and later at the South Portland Nursing Home.
She is survived by her son, Tim, and his wife, Caroline, of Ocean Park; her daughter, Pam Green and her husband, Bill, of Cumberland; grandchildren, Jason McCormack, Aaron McCormack, Sam Green and Emily Green; great-grandchildren, Gaby, Gwyneth, Isabel and Timmy McCormack; her brother, Jack Daigle and his wife, Dolly; her sister, Rosanne Dombek and her husband, Joe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff of the South Portland Nursing Home for their care and support the last three years.
