HOULTON – Sylvia C. Cummings, 86, passed away Oct 2, 2014, at a local health care facility. She was born Dec. 17, 1927, in Houlton, the youngest and last surviving child of H. Lee and Daisy (Rugan) Crawford.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Church of Houlton all of her life. She attended local schools, graduating from Houlton High School in 1946. She married Leigh Cummings, her high school sweetheart, when he returned from serving with the U.S. Army in Germany.
She is survived by their five children, Eva Brown, Nancy St. Hilaire, Leigh Jr. and wife, Sandy, Michael and wife, Nancy, and Terry and wife, Crystal; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents; a daughter-in-law; and two grandsons.
The family expresses its appreciation to Dr. Sussman and the staff of Madigan Estates for the excellent care Sylvia received during her extended illness.
Friends called 6-8 p.m. Sunday, October 5, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, and 10-11 a.m. on Monday, October 6, at St. Mary’s Church, 110 Military St., Houlton, where a Mass of Christian burial was at 11 a.m. Interment was at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
