University of New England’s Center for Global Humanities has announced speakers for the 2014-15 year. In its sixth year of programming, the center is a public forum designed to introduce students and members of the public to the exploration of the great issues facing humanity today in partnership with the Maine Humanities Council, and also through an agreement with Euro-Arab Foundation Institute.
Benjamin Powell
Cary Library will host a streamed lecture by Professor Benjamin Powell, director, of the Free Market Institute, Texas Tech University, from 6-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29.
Professor Powell is the author of “Out of Poverty: Sweatshops in the Global Economy.” His lecture will be based on his book and will explain how these sweatshops provide the best available opportunity to workers and how they play an important role in the process of development that eventually leads to better wages and working conditions.
