St. Peter’s lawn party on deck

EAST MILLINOCKET, Maine — For more than 70 years St. Peter’s Lawn Party in East Millinocket has been one of the social highlights of the summer season and August 2014 will be no different. This year’s event will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 59 Cedar St., East Millinocket.
This lawn party is where folks from “away” come to renew friendships, where tourists come to enjoy themselves and to get great buys and where local people come to socialize and have fun and food.
One of the big attractions this year is the lawn party auction where one can bid on anything from a box of plant pots to gift certificates from local businesses. Among the latest items to be donated to the auction are: a mini fan, an exercise machine, a rubber back stair runner, a pogo stick and a leaf blower. In total, 200 items are expected to be available to bid on. The auction runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. with Kermit Cote as auctioneer.
There is still time to donate items to the auction (excluding large appliances and clothing). Persons who may wish to donate items to the auction may call St. Peter’s office Monday through Thursday at 746-3333 to make arrangements.
Another big draw is the spaghetti supper put on by members of St. Anne’s Circle, Daughters of Isabella, using a secret recipe for the sauce, a recipe that remains secret to this day and makes that meal so special. The meal will be served between 4-6 p.m. and is $7. Take out will be available.
The magic show put on by Danny Baker of Bangor is in its 35th year. Baker performs between noon and 1 p.m.
There are plenty of other activities that day including booths featuring knit goods and fancy work, food and crafts.
Adding to the excitement will be the drawing of the winners of the raffle that includes a $200 food prize and a $100 gift certificate for oil from Preble Oil Co.  The day will climax with the drawing at 6 p.m. of the winners of the $1,000 cash give-away.
There will tents set up at the site to provide cover from the sun and heat. There is ample parking.
