On Saturday, June 1st, Charlene Webb celebrated her 84th birthday and her husband, Clayton and friend, Hope, organized a party for her, which was held at the Webb home. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Shields, of Bristol, Conn. and Shin Pond; Mr. and Mrs. Almon Townsend, Houlton; Mary and Junior, Patten with daughter, Laura; Mary Pipes, Earl Nason and Darlene, Earl and Lottie Doughty, all of Smyrna; and Henry Boudrou, Ken Willette and friend, Colleen, Clinton and Rachel Roy, all of Linneus.
Following a musical afternoon refreshments were served by husband, Clayton and son, Dale, which included a lovely strawberry shortcake, macaroni and shrimp salad, a molded salad and punch and the inevitable hamburgers and hot dogs, all which were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm arrived a week or so ago to their home here in Island Falls, after spending the winter months in Englewood, Florida, and just in time to greet the black flies and mosquitoes that have appeared the past 10 days. I happened to be looking out my back window recently and spied a little brown bunny rabbit busily eating out near the edge of the woods. He appeared to be the cautious type and didn’t stay very long.
I still have the mourning doves appearing on my front lawn, but the chickadees and gold finch haven’t been around much. I think the ground hog has returned as I put out a bit of food on my front step and it was soon gone. I still have the red squirrels and gray squirrels around so they may have done away with the food. I tried putting the bird seed out later in the afternoon for the little birds’ supper, but the dratted squirrels seem to have a sixth sense about seeds and are there before you even know it, chomping away merrily.
My next door neighbor informed me recently that she had seen the deer coming from my yard over to hers, so I guess they are still around. I just don’t happen to be lucky enough to see them.
