Tempo keeps business going

    PRESQUE ISLE – For over 22 years, Tempo Employment Services has been filling both temporary and full-time positions for Aroostook County employers. Owner Lois Dickson says success has come through the many bases that her company strives to cover.     One important factor, she said, is that Tempo’s client base serves many different industries. The company places employees in a variety of jobs ranging from factory and construction work to clerical and office work. “Our success has a direct correlation to the economy, which means when one industry may be going through a slowdown, another may be increasing staff.
    “For example, if the lumber industry decreases or goes through a slower period, the potato market may be doing well, enabling Tempo to keep the same number or people employed. Having this diversity allows us to protect ourselves by planning for economic swings within our area.”
    Competitive wages are also a major contributing factor to Dickson’s success. “We strive to pay the employee as much as possible while providing a cost-efficient service to the various business in our area,” she said.
    Perhaps most critical to Tempo’s success, however, is Dickson and her staff’s commitment to customer service and the positive “word of mouth” advertising that follows.
    “Many companies and employees refer associates, friends and family members to Tempo because of the service they have received,” she said. “Our goal is to find the right job for the employee and the right applicant for the job. We constantly ask for feedback and are committed to being fair to everybody. We know there is a direct link between employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction.”
    Over the years, Tempo has also become an important link between businesses and people from other areas. Dickson said she receives resumes from people who want to move back to the area to raise their families or retire. “We do our best to place an entire spectrum of people,” she said.
