HOULTON, Maine — A group of 17 individuals were inducted into the Houlton High School National Honor Society during a special ceremony Jan. 28.
“Being a member of NHS stands for so much more than just grades,” said President Josh Sullivan during his welcoming remarks. “Scholarship, service, leadership and character are traits that the National Honor Society embodies. Getting into the society is a great honor and privilege.”
To be a member of the NHS requires students to adhere to a code of conduct that is set forth by the council at school to represent the pillars of character, scholarship, leadership and service.
“It is not enough to demonstrate just one pillar,” Sullivan said. “Just like a strong structure, all four pillars must be in place.”
The 2014 inductees from Houlton High School include Madelene Anderson, Laura Beals, Kyle Bouchard, Christian Crane, Keegan Fitzpatrick, Hayley Flewelling, Dakota Gramour, Noah Holmes, Jill Howland, Emily Mooers, Shanna Porter, Danielle Provost, Haven Rhoda, Natalie Rush, Caliegh Sullivan, Tessa Winship and Morgan Wotton.
The incoming class recited the following pledge during the ceremony:
“I pledge myself to uphold the highest purposes of the National Honor Society to which I have been selected; I will be true to the principles for which it stands; I will be loyal to my school; and will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.”
Senior members of the NHS include Robert Woods, vice president; Erin Keehn, secretary; Sarah Abbotoni, Caeley Brown, Kole Buzzeo, Kierra Carmichael, Alejandro Casillas, Isaac Cone, Phoenix Crockett, Emily Dee, Breanne Longstaff, Kaycee McClure, Katelynn McClure, Isaac Morse, Amelia St. John, Ryan Tribou and Alex York.
The evening concluded with Houlton High School Principal Marty Bouchard listing the first quarter principal’s honor awards and academic honors.
